4 Fabulous Airbnbs in San Francisco

San Francisco

The home of Airbnb, San Francisco naturally has a huge number of listings on the service. But given how it’s some of the most expensive real estate in all of the USA (and the world), don’t expect to rent an entire apartment if you’re on a budget, but just a private room (and even some of those are pretty expensive). Many rooms are located in the suburbs immediately surrounding the city, such as the bohemian Mission District and colourful Haight-Ashbury, or head further out for a wider variety of cheaper options. Don’t also forget to note that the initial prices doesn’t include the San Francisco Transient Occupancy Tax, an extra 14% on top of the rental fee and any cleaning fee. Here are four great Airbnbs in San Francisco that I’ve uncovered…

🐾 Dog-friendly: Some of these options are dog-friendly, see below.

This classic Victoria house is located in Noe Valley, a sunny and quiet neighbourhood that’s still within walking distance of the hip restaurants of the Mission District. The available double room has high ceilings, wooden floors and lots of light, plus you also have access to the rest of Maria’s house including a shared bathroom and a gorgeous back patio. With only a 1 night minimum, the room is available for around $85 USD per night (plus $20 USD cleaning fee, 14% San Francisco Occupancy Tax and Airbnb service fee).

A Cute Cottage at Ocean Beach

Look at how cute this cottage is! And just wait until you see the quaintly decorated private room with private shower that you’ll get to stay in! Located a block back from the Pacific Ocean in Ocean Beach, this offers a different kind of stay in San Francisco, one that’s more chilled and quiet, with the chance to go surfing on your doorstep. Yet the N-Judah street car is only a block away, and can take you into the city centre in 30 minutes. With a 2 night minimum, there’s not much availability for the next few months. It’ll set you back around $95 USD per night (plus 14% San Francisco Occupancy Tax and Airbnb service fee, and there’s a $100 security deposit).

A Stylish Stay in Colourful Haight-Ashbury

Haight-Ashbury is best known for being the home of the “Painted Ladies” and the original home of the hippie sub-culture that sprouted in San Francisco in the late 1960s. Located just near Castro Street, this beautiful room is located in Elmer’s two-bedroom, one-bathroom top-floor apartment. With wall-mounted heat and a memory foam mattress, you’re guaranteed a comfortable night, before enjoying the breakfast supplies that Elmer makes available. With one Corgi already in the house, dogs are also welcome. It’s just a touch above $100 USD per night, at about $109 USD per night (plus 14% San Francisco Occupancy Tax and Airbnb service fee).

A Gorgeous Room for One in the Mission District

Okay, I usually only include listings that can accommodate two people, but I couldn’t resist including this gorgeous room available in the Mission District, which is unfortunately for only one person, despite being such a large room. Located right in the heart of the district and surrounded by dozens of restaurants, boutiques and galleries, plus the city’s best street art, this 1907 apartment building is also just one block from the BART (subway) and easy access to the city centre. With a four night minimum, it’s available for around $80 USD per night (plus $20 USD cleaning fee, 14% San Francisco Occupancy Tax and Airbnb service fee).
