How to Commission Your Own Pet Portrait

This post was created in conjunction with PortraitFlip.

If you’re like me, your pet is a beloved member of your family and very close to your heart. One of the most special ways that you can celebrate your treasured pet is by commissioning a portrait of them. But before you start thinking of the troubles of having a pet sit for a portrait (and the cost involved), there is another way to have pet portraits created. PortraitFlip offer a quality yet affordable service where a portrait is created of your pet from a photo, then delivered to anywhere in the world.

Perfect Occasions for Pet Portraits

While anytime is a great time to create a special memento of your pet, consider having an animal portrait created as a Christmas gift, Valentine’s gift or as something special to celebrate your pet’s birthday or gotcha day. And on a sadder note, they’re a great way to remember a recently passed away pet. Choose between having a pet portrait created for yourself, or as a gift for a fellow animal lover (or both).

Types of Pet Portraits

Pet paintings

PortraitFlip offers classic pet paintings in oil © PortraitFlip

PortraitFlip offers multiple mediums for your pet portrait. As well as the classic option of an oil painting, you may also want to consider a charcoal drawing, watercolor painting, acrylic painting, colored pencil drawing or pencil sketch. Each medium offers a different character for your pet’s portrait. And you don’t have to have just a single pet in your portrait. Choose to include multiple animals, or even yourself and your pet.

How Does It Work?

The process to order your pet portrait from PortraitFlip is quite simple, and can be done entirely online.

Firstly, select an ideal photo, or even multiple photos, to help the artist better understand the details of your pet’s face. It’s also possible to submit a separate photo with a different background to be used, or multiple photos of multiple pets to be combined into a single painting.

Then head to the PortraitFlip website and click Get Started. Choose the medium for your pet’s portrait. A price range is displayed for each option, with the final price depending on the portrait size, number of pets (plus people) in the portrait, whether you want it framed, and your delivery speed.

Upload your photo(s), plus any suggestions to the artist, then submit your order. Choose between full payment upfront or a 30% deposit (with the remainder to be paid once you approve the painting or drawing for delivery). If the portrait is a gift, you can of course have it sent directly to your recipient. Just specify their address and a message when ordering.

You’ll be notified when painting of your portrait starts, with regular updates. Once the portrait is ready, it will be emailed to you to review, with the ability to request unlimited revisions. Then when it’s ready, it will be framed (if selected) and delivered. Choose from either the standard free delivery (16 to 20 days) or an express option (10 to 14 days). Delivery is available to any country in the world, although remote locations may take a few extra days.
